Our Consumer Resources

The Responsible LendingGuidelines were developed by the Financial Services Federation withthe assistance of a variety of stakeholders including the NZ Federation ofBudgeting Services. The Guidelines aim to improve consumer protection, raisestandards of responsible lending across the consumer credit industry, and setout specific steps that lenders may need to take to assess if a credit contractwill be suitable for a consumer.

As a counterpart to the Responsible Lending Code , the Financial Services Federation and the NZ Federation of Family Budgeting Services have collaborated together to produce The Code of Responsible Borrowing to inform borrowers of their responsibilities to lenders when they borrow money.

The Financial Services Federation also created the the Responsible Credit-Related Insurance Code, which outlines the value of having the protection these products provide, and how they should be sold responsibly.

Our most recent consumer awareness resource is the Responsible Mobile Shop Code, to support the crackdown on unscrupulous mobile traders and help arm consumers with valuable knowledge for dealing with a mobile trader.
